Cabins run through the day from Zermatt’s valley station, continuously rather than on sparse departures - this is a lift network, not a train line. The pattern that matters: the top sections keep shorter hours than the valley, opening after the first valley gondolas and closing before them, with the highest legs adjusting most by season. Practical translation: crossing days start early by design, and the afternoon buffer you think you have at the top is smaller than the valley timetable implies. Wind edits any of it without notice.
